Kathmandu: Cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane’s supporters have demonstrated against the visa rejection by the USA.
They demonstrated at Maitighar on Wednesday. The USA did not grant a visa to Lamichhane to participate in the T-20 World Cup.
Hence, Lamichhane’s supporters demonstrated to create public pressure for the visa approval. They demanded to
Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) officials informed the Sports Council, Ministry of Sports, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Prime Minister’s Secretariat about Lamichhane’s issue.
Despite CAN’s efforts, the USA rejected the visa to Lamichhane. Patan High Court acquitted Lamichhane in a rape case, who was convicted guilty by the Kathmandu District Court. After that, CAN lifted Lamichhane’s suspension and included him in the team.
Due to the rejection of the visa, his possibility of playing in the T-20 World Cup almost ended. The T-20 World Cup kicks on June 2 at the USA, West Indies. Nepal to face Netherlands in first game on June 4.
