Preparation to release Mahara on date of attendance

Kathmandu: Preparations have been made to release former Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara on the date of attendance.

Preparation is being made due to Mahara’s health condition. Mahara will be presented at the court on Friday for an extension of the 4-day deadline given by the court.

According to a CIB source, a request will be made to release Mahara, by making the investigation officer to his power,  on the date of attendance by showing weak health conditions at the court.

Likewise, CIB took Mahara’s statement for two days.

After the completion of statement statement-taking procedure by CIB, Mahara was admitted to Norvic Hospital.  He was discharged while recording the statement and readmitted after recording the statement.

Similarly, an investigation officer said that Mahara’s health condition was critical while recording the statement.

Mahara was arrested from Pakadi, Kapilvastu on 18 March (Chaitra, 5). An investigation has been started on Mahara on the allegation that his name was connected with the Chinese nationals who were involved in the smuggling of 61 kg of gold that was hidden in brake shoes on 18 July 2022 (Shrawan 2, 2079) and 9 kg of gold in (Electronic Cigarette) Vape on December 2022 (Poush,2079).
