Kathmandu: The Sherpa community is celebrating the ‘Gyalpo Lhosar’ across the nation.
Sherpa community and Buddhists living in the Himalayan region celebrate Gyalpo Lhosar on the day of Falgun Shulka Pratipada. Sherpa community celebrating 2151st Galpo Lhosar on Monday.
Likewise, the festival is classified into 12 animal classes that are rat, cow, tiger, rabbit, dragon (meg), snake, horse, sheep, monkey, bird, dog, and boar. The year begins with rat and ends with boar.
The year begins with the dragon. The previous year had ended with rabbit.
The Sherpa community of the Himalayan region celebrates this festival for 15 days. Similarly, Sherpa just 1 month before the start of the Lhosar festival paints and cleans their houses, and buys new clothes.
Earlier, the Gurung community celebrated Tamu Lhosar on 31st December (15th Poush) and the Tamang community celebrated Sonam Lhosar on Magh Shukla Pratipada.
