Minister Dr. Mahat: More than 100 billion to be allocated to pay public debt

Kathmandu: Minister of Finance Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat said the government has to allocate a large amount of money every year to pay the debt obligations.

Minister Dr Mahat said that the government’s obligation to spend more than 100 billion (1 kharab) for the payment of the public debt in the next financial year while presenting a proposal to discuss the principles and priorities of the appropriation bill for the financial year 2081/82 in the parliament meeting on Monday.

Likewise, he clarifies the government’s challenges in paying the liabilities, due to the low budget allocation in development projects. He even said that there is a need for a large budget for the reconstruction of houses for the Jajarkot and other earthquake victims.

Similarly, Minister Dr. Mahat said that the construction of permanent houses in the earthquake-affected areas couldn’t be carried out, due to the lack of guaranteed resources.
