KMC halts garbage collection in Kanti Children’s Hospital

Kathmandu: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has halted waste collection in  Kanti Children’s Hospital.

KMC halts waste collection until further arrangements are made. A team led by KMC Vice Mayor and Coordinator of Monitoring Committee Sunita Dangol inspected the hospital waste management practices on Tuesday.

The KMC found weaknesses in the classification and pre-transportation of the waste which resulted in informing the hospital that garbage couldn’t be collected.

Likewise, Department of Environment Management Head, Raviman Shrestha said that they halted the waste collection of the hospital, due to the threat of harmful waste coming out from the hospital. He even said that the hospital hasn’t followed the color indication to store waste materials.

Similarly, the hospital has installed equipment to treat harmful waste, for this effectiveness team suggested that the classification should be carried out effectively from the source.
