Sports Minister Limbu and his counterpart Thakur inaugurate BIMSTEC Aquatics Championship

Kathmandu: Union Minister for I&B and Youth Affairs & Sports Anurag Thakur and Minister of Youth & Sports Dig Bahadur Limbu have inaugurated the BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) Aquatics Championship 2024.

They jointly inaugurated the Championship on Tuesday. Both Thakur and Limbu also had a meeting on Monday.  Minister Thakur expressed their happiness towards the meeting with Minister Limbu, through social media X.

Saurabh Kumar, Secretary (East) in the Ministry of External Affairs, and Indra Mani Pandey, Secretary General, MINSTEC were also present at the inauguration ceremony.

They had a meeting ahead of the BIMSTEC Aquatics Championship 2024, which would be held in Delhi from 7-9 February 2024. They held discussions to explore partnership opportunities, between the two nations, in the field of sports.

The discussion focused on leveraging the power of the youths to promote and strengthen regional unity and cooperation. Thakur even thanked the leadership of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which allowed hosting the international sporting event under BIMSTEC.

More than 400 sports persons and officials from seven member countries (Nepal, India, Myanmar, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Bhutan) will be participating in the event.
