Inquiry Committee recommends to suspend ASI, dismiss Immigration Officer

Kathmandu: The inquiry committee has recommended action against both parties involved in the physical assault case at Tribhuvan International Airport(TIA).

The committee, formed to investigate the assault incident between the Police and TIA Immigration staff, recommended the suspension of Assistant Sub Inspector( ASI) of Nepal Police Sanjay Tamang. The committee decided to dismiss the victim’s immigration officer.

The committee also recommended the removal of another Immigration Officer Chayalal Moktan. Likewise, the investigation committee formed under the coordination of Joint Secretary Thaneshwor Gautam submitted a report to the Ministry of Home Affairs on Wednesday.

Ministry of Home Affairs’s Joint Secretary Thaneshwor Gautam led the three-member inquiry committee to investigate the incident. Deputy Inspector General of Police of Nepal Police Rajesh Nath Bastola and Deputy Secretary of the Border and Immigration Administration Branch Kul Bahadur G.C. are the other two members of the committee.

Similarly, the Committee submitted its report to the Ministry of Home Affairs on Wednesday. It recommended to take departmental action against 2 constables. The committee recommended to alert DSP Revathiram Pokharel, who was responsible for the ‘command’ at the airport.

Likewise, the Committee concludes that DSP Pokharel failed to command subordinate police personnel effectively. Currently, DIG Arjun Chand Thakur is leading Tribhuvan International Airport Police. He was on vacation on the day of the incident.
