Pakistan Special Court sentences 10 years imprisonment to Former PM Imran Khan

Kathmandu: The Special Court in Pakistan has sentenced 10 years imprisonment to Former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The court sentenced 10 years imprisonment to Khan in case of leaking confidential documents. According to BBC, the Court sentenced 10 years imprisonment to former PM Imran Khan and former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Tuesday,  under the Privacy Act.

Khan has been sentenced to long-term imprisonment before the start of the general election. The General Election is going to be held in upcoming February 8. If Khan had got a clearance in case, there was a possibility of him to participate in the election.

However, Khan denies the allegation of privacy act. His party Tehreek- e-Insaaf (PTI) said that it would challenge the decision in the High Court.

‘In false cypher case, the court has sentenced 10 years of imprisonment to former PM Imran Khan and Former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi. This decision has neither been accessed by the media nor the trial has been made public. Our legal team will challenge the decision in the High Court,’ said PTI.

PTI said they expected the High Court to overturn the decision. Khan stepped down as PM after he failed to gain a vote of confidence in 2022. Earlier, he was sentenced to 3 years of imprisonment in case of another corruption.

Likewise, Khan said that all the allegations against him were politically driven. He said that there was even the involvement of the USA. Khan has been accused of leaking confidential documents relating to the Cypher case. In the charge sheet, it has been claimed that Khan had not returned the secret diplomatic documents.
