Inquiry committee begins investigation in Police-Immigration fight at TIA

Kathmandu: The inquiry committee has begun its investigation regarding the physical assault case between the Immigration official and police personnel.

The committee, formed under the Home Ministry, collected the CCTV footage and is interrogating the people involved in the incident at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).

The committee will submit its report to the Home Ministry on Monday. Police have been investigating and monitoring the irregularities, including Human Trafficking in recent times. It has been found that the strict regulations implemented by the police created a misunderstanding between the police and immigration.

The officials of the Home Ministry have assumed the misunderstanding resulting in the physical assault between the officials of the two departments.

Police arrested an Immigration Officer in the same incident a few days ahead. Since then, the Police have been targeting Immigration Officials.

Ministry of Home Affairs’s Joint Secretary Thaneshwor Gautam is leading the three-member inquiry committee to investigate the incident. Deputy Inspector General of Police of Nepal Police Rajesh Nath Bastola and Deputy Secretary of the Border and Immigration Administration Branch Kul Bahadur G.C. are the other two members of the committee.

Police have physically assaulted Immigration Head Gogan Bahadur Hamal and Immigration Officer Chhaya Lal Mokatan. Police said that the Immigration officials including Moktan physically assaulted on-duty Assistant Sub Inspector Prakash Chaudhary and another police officer.

The CCTV footage reveals the discussion and fight between Moktan and the Police official. Even other officials of toth departments were involved in the incident.
