Volcanic eruption in Mount Marapi; Death of 11 climbers

Kathmandu: The volcanic eruption in Indonesia’s Mount Marapi has resulted in the death of 11 climbers.

According to Aljazeera, 12 people went missing after the volcano erupted in West Sumatra on Sunday. The head of Padang Search and Rescue Agency Abdul Malik said that there were 26 people during the time of the eruption, out of which 14 were found and 3 were alive but 11 were dead.

Rescue workers had to stop their operation due to the spread of volcanic ashes, which covered the sky, cars, and roads with debris.

Indonesia lies on the Pacific’s so-called “Ring of Fire” as per Indonesia’s volcanology agency. There are a total of 127 active volcanoes in Indonesia. Mt. Marapi is one of those active volcanoes, with an elevation of 2891 meters.

In 1979, a destructive volcanic eruption, in Indonesia, took the lives of 60 people.
