Minister Information Technology responds to Supreme Court, Difficult to regulate TikTok

Kathmandu: The Ministry of Information and Technology has responded to the Supreme Court. The Ministry said that there was no option other than banning TikTok.

The ministry said that the ban on TikTok must be continued as it was not possible to regulate the activities of social media TikTok immediately.

Information Technology said that the ban could not be lifted in the situation. Ministry said, ‘Other social media can remove the materials if found violating the community guidelines. However, TikTok cannot remove the materials of the real-time events and has the feature to record the live, which can be posted on other social media platforms, hence it is not possible to regulate TikTok in the current state.’

The Supreme Court has sought a response in writing from the government about the reason for banning on social media platform, TikTok. 14 writs have been filed at the court against the ban.
