Minister Jwala pledges to promote disabled-friendly infrastructure development

Kathmandu: Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Prakash Jwala has pledged the government to promote disabled-friendly infrastructure development.

While speaking at the 32nd International Day of the Persons with Disabilities program on Sunday, December 3, Minister Jwala talked about promoting disabled-friendly infrastructures. The Minister pledged to give priority to the construction of disabled-friendly roads, religious sites, and other infrastructures.

He even stressed the right to self-sufficiency and to live a dignified life to be recognized and implemented very basic right for disabled people. As he said, it is the first responsibility of the State to build an atmosphere where people with disabilities can explore self-sufficiency and live a dignified life.

National Federation of the Disabled Nepal Devidutta Acharya stressed that the three-tier government be positive and proactive towards the improvement of the rights of the disabled. She said, ‘The Federal, province, and local governments should manage the budget necessary for the capacity enhancement of persons with disabilities.’

Secretary of Women, Children, and Senior Citizens Suman Raj Aryal was one of the views of endorsing the National Disability Policy soon. The Ministry is proactive in getting the policy that incorporates social, economic, and environmental justice for persons with disabilities soon.

Secretary Aryals said,’ People with disabilities should be connected to the existing technology to improve their living conditions. Likewise, Social Welfare Council information officer, Sanjay Kumar Mallik, was in an opinion to  assimilate the theme of ‘United in action to rescue and achieve the sustainable development goals for, with and by persons with disabilities,’

On the program, various people including Parbati Paudel, Santosh Paudel, Bhabukjung Thapa, Sharmila Bishwakarma, Tikaram Ghimire, Pratima Sharma, Goma Adhikari, Teknath Neupane, Nirmala Devkota and Ishwor Raila were awarded.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities is observed each year on December 3 after the proclamation of the United Nations General Assembly in 1992.
