Salt Trading Corporation increases sugar quota for retailers; 20 sacks per shop

Kathmandu: The Salt Trading Corporation has increased the quotas of sugar to the retailers.

Based on the business registration certificate, the corporation decided to provide sugar sacks up to 20 per shop. Previously, the corporation had limited the sugar sacks to 10 sacks per shop.

One sack will have 50 kgs of sugar. According to the Corporation Manager Brajesh Jha, the corporation has already distributed more than 5000 sacks to 450 retail shops.

Brajesh said, ‘The retail shops can purchase sugar from the corporation.’ The sugar has been sold as per the allocated price of the government, i.e. Rs. 112.50 per kg.

The corporation has been selling sugar at the price of 97 rupees per kg in festival-centric fair-price shops. The corporation has been selling the sugar at a fair price from the seized 700 quintals.

According to the statistics, about 35 thousand metric tonnes of sugar is consumed during the festive season. But, due to the lack of coordination from the government, people are facing a shortage in the festive season.

The government has permitted the corporation to import 10 thousand metric tonnes of sugar from India.
