Surkhet: The late distribution of relief materials has affected the earthquake victims of Jajarkot and West Rukum.

People are compelled to fight hunger, under the open sky, due to the dilemma in relief material distribution. Most of them are even battling with the pain of the loss of their relatives.

The government has not allowed anyone to distribute relief materials in the area, to use the ‘one-door’ concept in the distribution. The unavailability of earthquake victims’ records created issues in distributing the relief materials, provided by Governmental and Non-governmental organizations.

Man Bahadur Rawat of Bheri Municipality-5 said that the earthquake victims were not getting relief materials, due to a lack of data, despite the decision of the District Disaster Management Committee to distribute relief materials through the ‘one-door’ concept.

According to Jajarkot District Chief Suresh Sunuwar, the collected relief materials will be distributed through the respective municipality by Sunday evening.

The earthquake on Friday night at 11:47 pm hit Jajarkot and Rukum Paschim, with Ramidanda of Jajarkot as the epicenter of the 6.4 Richter scale quake. According to latest update from the police, 157 people have been confirmed dead with around 200 people injured.
