Nepal qualifies for T20 World Cup after 10 years; Defeats UAE to reach final of Asian Qualifiers

Kathmandu: The National Cricket Team of Nepal has qualified for the ICC T-20 World Cup.

Nepal booked its ticket for the T-20 World Cup with the victory over UAE by 8 wickets in the semi-final of the Asian Qualifiers on Friday.

Nepal had played the T-20 World Cup ten years ago. UAE defeated Nepal to qualify for the World Cup last time. Nepal took its revenge and qualified for the 2024 T-20 World Cup.

Two teams have been qualified for the World Cup. Now, Nepal would compete with Oman in the finals of the T-20 Asian qualifiers.

Nepal completed the target of 135 runs with the loss of 2 wickets and 17 balls remaining. Asif Sheikh was not out at 63 runs. He hit 6 boundaries and 2 sixes for Nepal.

Captain Rohit Kumar Poudel was also not out at 35 runs. Rohit hit 3 fours and one six in 21 balls. Gulshan Jha contributed 22 and Kushal Bhurtel 11 runs for the victory.

In the first innings, UAE scored 134 runs losing 9 wickets. Vritya Aravind scored 64 runs for UAE. Kushal Malla took 3, Sandeep Lamichhane 2 and Sompal Kami as well as Rohit Kumar Poudel took 1 wicket each.
