Kathmandu: Nepal Hindu’s second biggest festival Tihar or Deepawali is approaching.

This has increased the workload of the Potters of Bolachhen (Talako), Bhaktapur -4, busy. Most of the people of the area are indulged in pottery business. Hence the place is popularly known as ‘Pottery Square.’

Potters can be seen busy making clay lamps (Pala), clay pots, and utensils for the approaching Tihar. This is the peak time for making clay lamps. There is a high demand for clay lamps in Tihar, which makes the potters busy.

Most of the potters in the area are continuing the legacy of their ancestors. They not only make clay pots but also make house decoration materials from clay.

People can be seen installing electric lights to decorate their houses during Tihar. However, the significance of lightening the traditional clay lamp is still alive.
