Human Activists protest in front of President’s Office;13 arrested (Photo Feature)

Kathmandu: The Human Rights and Peace Society has demonstrated against the amnesty given to Yograj Dhakal “Regal” in front of the President’s Office.

Police obstructed the demonstration and arrested 13 demonstrating human rights activists. Human rights activist leader Krishna Pahadi, Society Centre Chairperson Ramkrishna Baral, former Chairperson Uttam Pudasaini, and Kathmandu District Chairperson Bhagawan Pudasaini were among the arrested ones.

The President approved the government’s proposal of giving amnesty to Dhakal and 670 prisoners on 20th September (Asoj 3) Constitution Day.

Dhakal was charged with murdering Chetan Manandhar using a Khuda at Nepalgunj market on 13th July 2015 (Ashar 28,2072). Dhakal had been convicted on the charge of murder and was serving life imprisonment at the District prison of Dang.

Bharti Sherpa, widow of Chetan Manandhar, has been on hunger strike at Maitighar since 2nd October, Wednesday, against amnesty given to Dhakal.
