Explosion at fuel depot in Nagorno-Karabakh, death of 20 people

Kathmandu: 20 people have died after an explosion occurred at a fuel depot in Nagorno-Karabakh.

According to BBC, 20 people died and more than hundreds were injured in the explosion. More than 300 people have been admitted to the hospital. Most of them are critically injured.

Nagorno-Karabakh is a disputed area. It lies in Azerbaijan and is home to 1, 20,000 ethnic Armenians.

The actual reason behind the explosion has not been clear. Armenians call the explosion area Stepanakert, which is near Khandeni city. The area had been suffering fuel shortage for more than a month.

Local officials said that they had found 13 unidentified bodies in the site and more than seven people died in the hospital. The medical team is trying to save the lives of 290 patients suffering from severe burns.

The Health Ministry of Armenia said that it was sending helicopters to rescue the patients from strained hospitals. Azerbaijan said that it had sent the medical supplies to the site.
