Man murders his ex-lover and her daughter to satisfy his ego

Kathmandu: Police have arrested a person in the murder of Rewati Thapa and her child.

Police arrested Karna Bahadur Basnet (29 years old) for his involvement in the suspicious death of Rewati and her nine-month-old daughter.

According to District Police Office Salyan Chief DSP Naveen Karki, Basnet is a resident of Khanigaun, Siddha Kumakh rural municipality-2. Basnet is found to be the ex-lover of Rewati.

Rewati and Basnet fell in love after connecting through Facebook. Basnet was married and Rewati was unmarried when they first started their communication.

Police said that Basnet had captured obscene videos and photos of Rewati when they were in a relationship. Then, Rewati married another man. Basnet took the marriage of Rewati as a betrayal to him. His ego was hurt.

Basnet had sent obscene videos and photos to Rewati after two years of her marriage. Police said that the footage added turmoils to their broken relationship. The investigation found that the increase in rage resulted in Basnet planning the murder of Rewati.

Basnet returned to his home on 13^th September (27^th Bhadra). Then, just three days after his arrival, he executed his plan of murdering Rewati.

Basnet had choked Rewati wrapping a cloth around her neck. Police said that he sprinkled petrol and burned her body.

Basnet murdered Rewati and her daughter on 16^th September (30^th Bhadra). Although their death was suspected to be because of a gas leak, police claimed the death as murder.
