Kathmandu: India has defeated Nepal by 10 wickets in the Asia Cup 2023.
DL method was applied as the rainfall interrupted the chance. This resulted in the actual target of 231 runs getting reduced to 145 runs with overs of the second innings reducing to 23. India completed the scheduled target of 145 runs in 20.1 overs, with 17 balls remaining.
Both opening batsman Captain Rohit Sharma and Shubhman Gill succeeded in hitting half-centuries for India. Rohit added 74 and Shubhman 67 runs for India’s victory.
Earlier, Nepal opted to bat first, with India choosing to bowl first winning the toss. Nepal was all-out in 48.2 overs. Nepal was able to set a decent target of 231 runs to India.
Aasif Sheikh smashed 4 boundaries to contribute 58 runs to Nepal. Sompal Kami hit two sixes and one four to add 48 runs to Nepal. Kushal made 38 runs by hitting 3 fours and 2 sixes. Dipendra SinghAiree made 29 out of 25 balls. Gulsan Jha contributed 23 runs. Likewise, Bhim Sharki, Captain Rohit Kumar Poudel, and Kushal Malla contributed 7, 5, and 2 runs respectively. Sandeep contributed 9 runs but Lalit Rajbanshi was not able to open the account.
Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj took 3 wickets each for India. With this defeat, the journey of Nepal ended in Asia Cup 2023. Nepal was unable to even add a single point in the journey of the Group Stage.
With the victory over Nepal, India has booked its spot in ‘Super 4.’ Pakistan from Group ‘A’ had already reached the ‘Super 4.’ The teams entering the ‘Super 4’ from the Group ‘B’ will be finalized today. Srilanka and Afghanistan would compete against each other to book their spot for the ‘Super 4′ of Asia Cup.
