Ecuador's Presidential election candidate Fernando Villavicencio shot to death

Kathmandu: Fernando Villavicencio, the candidate for the upcoming presidential election in Ecuador, has been shot dead in a campaign rally.

According to BBC, Villavicencio, also a member of the national assembly, was shot dead in the northern city of Quito on Wednesday.

One of the members of the campaign team said that a man shot Villavicencio when he was entering his car. The man stepped forward and shot him in the head. A witness reported Villavicencio being shot three times.

The attorney General of Ecuador said that the security personnel shot the suspect in response due to which he died. The first round of the election will take place on the 20^th of August. Violent cases have been increasing in Ecuador.
