Former National Team Captain Gyanendra Malla retires from International Cricket

Kathmandu: Cricketer Gyanendra Malla has announced his retirement from international cricket.

Malla announced his retirement by organizing a press conference on Friday.

Gyanendra also led the National Cricket Team. Earlier, there were a few misunderstandings between Malla and the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN). Then, CAN removed Malla from the position and appointed Sandeep Lamichhane as the captain.

Malla thanked everyone who motivated him to continue his journey so far. He said,’ I had replaced someone for the position. Now it is the time for someone to replace me.’

Media personnel asked the reason behind his resignation. Malla replied that it was the appropriate time for his retirement. He said that when one could not give 100 percent to the national team, it was better to vacate the place.

In his career, Malla scored 876 runs in 37 ODIS for Nepal. He succeeded to contribute 7  ODI half-centuries. Similarly, Malla scored 883 runs in 45 T-20I games. He even hit one century and two half-centuries.

Malla served the National team for more than a decade. He became the captain of the national cricket team in 2019 B.S.
