Police arrest one over NMB looting, search for others intensified

Kathmandu: Police have arrested an Indian national for involvement in a bank robbery.

Twenty years old Ajay Kumar Safi from Bihar was allegedly part of a group that looted the NMB Bank based in Mahottari rural municipality-2 in Mahottari. On 30th May, the gang robbed and fled with Rs 1.5 million.

Ajay was apprehended on Wednesday evening near the Nepal-India border at Matihani-8, confirmed Deputy Superintendent of Police Dilip Kumar Giri, the spokesperson for the District Police Office in Mahottari.

A masked gang of four to five who arrived on theft motorcycles looted the bank by taking bank employees and customers captive. Since the day the crime took place, police have been searching for the gang with the help of human Nepal Police specialized agency, transnational coordination, and technology.

Furthermore, police identified the other accused in the crime and are intensely searching for them. Police hope that they will be arrested soon, police inspector Prakash Malla said.
