Police seize more than 8 quintals of gold within 10 years; Maximum porters among the arrested ones!

Kathmandu: Police have seized more than 8 quintals of illegal gold in the past ten years. According to the statistics, 809 kg of gold was seized in the fiscal year 2071-2072.

A total of 722 have been accused of gold smuggling within this period. Most of the arrested ones are porters and a few officials. Except for ‘Gorey’, the Police have not been successful to arrest any of the leaders of the gold smuggling case.

Police have the highest record of arresting smugglers from the Tribhuvan International Airport. About 497 smugglers have been arrested from the airport.

Recently, police succeeded to bust 1 quintal of gold, that was being loaded in the taxi, on the airport premises. Police have already arrested 16 people in the case. Porter, taxi drivers, and low-ranking officials are the arrested ones.

The arrest of only low-profile people and the weakness of the police to arrest the main leader of such gangs have made the cases mysterious. Also, the busting of the gold from the roads after passing through the customs department has made the case more suspicious. This has fueled the chances of the involvement of high-profile personalities in the case.
