Balen directs private schools to pay teachers as per government rule

Kathmandu: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Mayor Balen Shah has initiated another reform in the education sector.

Balen has directed that the teachers teaching in private schools should be paid at par with the government facilities, saying that they get less salary.

‘There have been complaints in The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) that the salaries of teachers in institutional (private) schools are less than that of community schools. However, Section 12(7)(g) of the ‘Education Act, 2028′ states that the teachers of institutional schools should also be paid without reducing the pay scale prescribed by the Government of Nepal,’ he wrote.

‘Similarly, Rule 68 of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City School Education Management Regulations, 2074 BS states that the salaries, allowances, pension, gratuity and other facilities of teachers and employees will not be reduced as prescribed in the federal education law,’ Balen added.

Balen has directed all institutional schools of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) to provide salary benefits to their teachers as prescribed in the laws and regulations. He has also requested the concerned people to contact KMC Education Department if salaries and facilities are not provided accordingly.
