Kathmandu: Weavers (Top Chara)are more special than normal birds. The bird looks similar to a sparrow and is popular as the ‘Engineer of birds.’

The hard work and creativity of Weavers in building nests, has made them the engineer of birds. The nest-making process of Weavers is a treat to watch.

Weavers build the nest to attract the opposite sex and secure the eggs. The suspended nest determines whether the female weaver would enter the nest or not. That’s why the male weaver passionately constructs the nest. The bird clearly reflects the engineering characteristics.

Another special feature of the bird is its vegetarian nature. It does not feed on insects, grasshoppers, and other meat-related products. It feeds upon wheat, leaves, and cereals.

The name of the bird is different in different regions. It is known as ‘Sujaro‘ in the Terai region, and ‘Chonchi‘ in the Hilly region. It is also known as ‘Tolayun’ and ‘Bekecho.’
