Kathmandu: President Ram Chandra Paudel has given authentication to the citizenship bill. President Paudel gave authentication to the citizenship-related bill passed by the previous federal parliament on Wednesday.
The legal advisor Baburam Kunwar confirmed the bill being authenticated. The government had requested President Paudel to authenticate the bill on Jestha 12, which was held by former President Bidhya Devi Bhandari as being against the Constitution of Nepal. President Paudel utilized sections 61 and 66 to authenticate the bill per the cabinet’s request.
The citizenship bill, which was passed by both houses of the Parliament, was submitted to former President Bhandari for authentication on 16th Shrawan, 2079. She returned the bill to the parliament pointing out 8 unsatisfactory points.
But, both houses passed the rejected bill without any corrections to the then President on Bhadra 20. Although there is the provision of approving the submitted bill within 15 days, she did not approve it.
However, President Paudel on the suggestion of a coalition government on power, had authenticated the same bill after 9 months.
