UML agrees upon supporting the Constitutional Council Bill

Kathmandu: The main opposition party CPN (UML) has agreed to support the Constitutional Council Bill. The agreement between the major parties of the House of Representatives has opened the door for the UML bill.

Subash Chandra Nembang, Deputy-Leader of UML, said, ‘An agreement has been made upon all parties uniting for moving forward. UML is committed to implementing the agreement. The Constitutional Council Bill will also move forward under the same agreement.’

The formation of the parliamentary committees was facing hurdles, due to the lack of coordination relating to distribution, even after 5 months of the completion of the election. But the committees might get in complete shape as the major parties have agreed on today’s meeting in Baluwatar.

An agreement has been made to give the responsibility of chairman of three committees, out of 12, to UML. A leader present in the meeting informed Nepal Views that the agreement has given the responsibility of implementing the directive principles, policies, and responsibilities of the state, leading the monitoring and evaluation committee, the public accounting committee as well as one more thematic committee.

This resulted in UML agreeing on moving forward with the bill. Previously, UML was disagreeing with supporting the bill. The parties agreed upon forming a sub-committee for concluding the Truth and Reconciliation (TRC)bill as soon as possible.
