Case filed against Indian officer for asking 250 million bribe from Shahrukh Khan

Kathmandu: India’s Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a corruption case against Sameer Wankhede, a former Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) director, and other two officers who arrested Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan in a drug bust on a cruise ship in 2021.

Wankhede is accused of demanding a INR 250 million bribe to not file charges against Aryan. According to the Times of India, the CBI carried out a nearly 13-hour raid at the officer’s residence on Friday, taking with them several documents and a printer.

Wankhede has been booked under sections 7, 7A, and 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, and sections 120 B (criminal conspiracy) and 388 (extortion by threat) of the Indian Penal Code.

The case has been registered against three officers and raids are underway at over 30 locations in Delhi, Mumbai, Ranchi, Lucknow, Guwahati and Chennai.

Wankhede conducted raids after getting information about a rave party on the Cordelia cruise from Mumbai to Goa on October 2, 2021, from where Aryan was arrested.

Aryan remained in police custody for 26 days and was even sent to Arthur Road Jail during that time. Due to the lack of solid evidence against him, the court granted him bail on October 28, 2021.
