Chinese ambassador calls on DPM Shrestha, applauds Nepal’s support to one-China policy

Kathmandu: China’s ambassador to Nepal, Chen Song, today paid a courtesy call to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, Narayan Kaji Shrestha.

In the meeting held at the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Deputy Prime Minister said, ‘Nepal and China have historic ties and Nepal is committed not to allowing its territory to be used against any anti-China affairs.’

He reiterated Nepal’s commitment to a one-China policy. He also utilized the meeting to call on the Chinese side for the implementation of the agreement on mutual legal assistance.

He also underlined the need of regularizing the meeting between district security bodies along the Nepal-China border and enhancing the community and coordination between the border security forces of the two neighbors.

Reminding of the past provision that gave authority to the Chief District Officer to provide the entry pass for the people residing along the border areas for the convenience of their lives, the Minister urged the Chinese side to resume the provision.

Expressing happiness over the decision to re-open Tatopani, Rasuwa, and Hilsa transit points, the Deputy Prime Minister urged the Chinese for taking initiation to resume the remaining transits: Saipal in Bajhang, Tinker of Darchula, Ruila of Gorkha, and Nakche in Mugu.

In response, the Chinese Ambassador said he agreed with the proposals to intensify the communication system between the border security officials and regularize the meeting, thanking Nepal for its continuous support of the one-China policy.

As he said, Nepal-China relations have taken a new height with Chinese President Xi Jinping’s 2019 Nepal visit and other high-level visits held thereafter. The Chinese envoy also applauded the Nepal’s home administration for its role for not allowing any anti-China activities in Nepal and protecting the Chinese investment and property here.
