Evacuation of people near Zaporizhzia rises panic

Kathmandu: The evacuation of people from the town near Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, has increased panic.

Ukrainian officials reported that Russia had told people to vacant 18 settlements from the peripheral regions of the nuclear plant i.e. Zaporizhzhia and Enerhodar.

According to BBC, Ukrainian general staff informed that civilians had been evacuated to Berdyansk and Prymorsk.

Ivan Fedorov, mayor of the Melitpol, said that there had been five-hour waits due to the departure of thousands of cars. He even added that the shops in the evacuated areas were facing a scarcity of goods and medicine.

Yevgeny Balitsky, Russian installed regional head, said that the enemy had been shelling near the settlement areas since the previous week. He wrote in his social media that they have been primarily focusing on the evacuation of children, parents, elderly people, disabled and hospital patients.

Likewise, the UN’s nuclear watchdog warned and suspected an approaching severe nuclear accident.

Russia invaded the area near the nuclear plant in February 2022.
