Kathmandu: Jacaranda is a genus of one of 49 flowering plants, that belong to the family Bignoniaceae, native to America. The scientific name of blue Jacaranda is Jacaranda mimosifolia.

Late King Birendra had returned with a plant of Jacaranda from America. Hence, the flower is also the name of ‘Birendra.’

Jacaranda is found in enormous numbers in Paraguay, Uruguay, South America, Florida, Mexico, Colombia, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Brazil, South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Australia, Newzealand, Israel, Italy, and Portugal. Jacaranda is also found in South Asian countries like Pakistan, India, and Nepal.

This plant is popular for its fast-growing and for fighting the drought. The blossomed Jacaranda had turned the color of Kathmandu into purple.
