Government prioritizes Federal Civil Service Act: Minister Sharma

Kathmandu: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Rekha Sharma has said the Federal Civil Service Act has been the priority of the government.

Sharma said that the process of tabling the Act in the parliament had reached its final stage,  while responding to queries raised by lawmakers during a deliberation on the report to monitor and evaluation of the implementation of the annual report of the National Concern and Coordination Committee for the fiscal year, 2018/19, 2019/20 and 2020/21 in today’s meeting of the House of Representatives.

Sharma said, ‘There has been a discussion on the Act with stakeholders. The government has accorded high priorities to it. It has landed in the Ministry of Law through the Ministry of Federal Affairs. Preparations are underway to table it in the federal parliament as soon as it gets to the Cabinet.’

The government has also focused on amending the Public Procurement Act, she said referring to the tendency of not completing development projects including the national pride ones, and of a contractor winning the contract for many projects.

She added, ‘There have been problems in the quality work of projects due to difficulties in the Act. The government has paid serious attention to it. The parliament has played a role in taking the government on the right track.’

Sharma suggested that all parliamentary committees must prepare their annual report and separately hold discussions with different ministries.

“The government has taken the committees’ reports positively. We will move ahead by correcting shortcomings,” she said, adding that the government was at work to make the laws so as to make the governments of all three levels, federal, provincial, and local powerful.
