Congress decides to support Upendra Yadav in Bara-2

Kathmandu: The main ruling coalition party Nepali Congress has decided to support Upendra Yadav in the upcoming by-election in Bara-2.

The meeting of Congress’s Central Work Performance Committee held today at party’s central office decided to support Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Chairperson Upendra Yadav in Bara-2 constituency.

Janamat and Loktrantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP), the other two coalition partners, have prepared to field their candidates in by-election of Bara-2. LSP’s Rajendra Mahato and Janamat’s Shivachandra Kushwaha will contest there.  However, Nepali Congress (NC) has favored Yadav instead.

Rastriya Swatandra Party has already announced to field Ramesh Kharel as its candidate in Bara-2. CPN (Maoist Center) has not yet made any decision, but the party is expected to support Yadav as well.

Apart from Bara-2, by-elections are also being held in Chitwan-2 and Tanahun-1 on April 23. NC has decided to field its Central Working Committee member Govinda Bhattarai in Tanahun and former District Committee President Jeet Narayan Shreshtha in Chiwan.

NC is hopeful that Maoist Center, Unified Socialist, LSP, JSP and other coalition partners will support Bhattarai and Shreshtha.
