Kathmandu: The Indian embassy in Kathmandu marked the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Day on Friday.
The celebration of 58th ITEC day was held, alongside cultural events organized by Swami Vivekananda cultural centre, at the Indian House lawn located inside the Embassy’s premises and attended by alumni of ITEC and Indian academic institutions, distinguished guests and senior bureaucrats. On the occasion, Indian ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava highlighted the role of ITEC in imparting developmental experiences and expertise of India to many bureaucrats, professionals and entrepreneurs of Nepal. Shrivastava added that India was considering new path for Nepal in the area of railways and other fields.

Speaking on the occasion, Energy Secretary Dinesh Ghimire, brigadier general Purna Bahadur Khatri, federal parliament’s Secretary Rojnath Pandey, army major Reshma K.C and other alumni of ITEC recalled their days in India.
Serving as an inspirational platform for human resource development, ITEC Program has made remarkable contributions in disseminating India’s Governance system and development-related expertise to more than 160 countries around the globe. Since its inception in 1964, the program has supported the capacity building of partner countries.
As a friendly and close neighbor, Nepal has remained an active partner of the ITEC Program for decades. Over the past 15 years, more than two thousand Nepali officials have benefitted from various courses under ITEC Program. This capacity-building program has not only assisted in Nepal’s human resource development, but also contributed to the socio-economic development of the region by learning lessons from the past experiences.
Last year alone, nearly 200 Nepali bureaucrats, health professionals, law practitioners, election and defense officials received trainings on respective ITEC courses. In the year 2022-2022, Chandigarh-based Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research provided training on International Public Health Management to 45 doctors of Nepal Medical Association; 32 officials of the Office of the Attorney General received special course from Jodhpur-based National Law University and 29 officials of Election Commission were trained at India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management.
This year, Nepali participants have received various trainings, including the ITEC Courses related to St. Stephen Young Leaders, Neighborhood-First Fellowship Program, M.Tech courses in Irrigation, Hydrology and Water Management, Leadership 4.0 Management and Governance in the Emerging World of Disruption, Investigation of Anti-Corruption Cases as well as Procurement and Contract Frauds, Dark Web and Crypto Currency.
